5D4N Hong Kong-Macau Travel Itinerary

Planning for a trip to Hong Kong and Macau? Here’s a suggested 5 days 4 nights itinerary for you.

Day 1

Arrival at Hong Kong International Airport.

  • Exchange USD to HKD in the airport. Exchange the money you need for transportation and dinner. If your staying near Mongkok or Yau Ma Tei area better to exchange there because they offer better exchange rate.
  • Octopus Card – it cost 150HKD. You can use this card in the bus, convenience store and McDonalds. Also, you can refund the card before you leave the country.
  • CSL Sim Card 5-Day Pass 1.5GB of data at 4G fast speeds – be updated in your social media accounts and upload your photos while in Hong Kong.

Going to the city (Kowloon Island)

  • Ride the Bus A21 – it cost 33HKD per person.
  • Check in Apartment – you can find affordable hotels and apartments in Agoda.com.

Where to eat?

Hong Kong food

  • Yau Ma Tei  – there’s a lot of restaurants around the area that cost around 30 HKD per meal. You must try the dimsum!
  • Cafe de Coral 30 – 50 HKD per meal.

Day 2

Victoria Harbor

  • Spend the morning at the Victoria Harbor. If you love cityscape this is the perfect place for you.

Ocean Park

  • Buy your Ocean Park tickets at the MTR Admiralty Station exit B Tourist Service. They offer 10% discount than the regular price.
  •  Ride the bus no. 629 going to Ocean Park. The bus fares cost 10.6 HKD for adults and 5.3 HKD for children (aged 4-11).
  • Food is not allowed inside but they do sell some snacks for 50 HKD.

Victoria Harbor

  • Watch the spectacular Symphony of Lights at 8:00 P.M.
  • Be ready to stand for long hours since no chairs are provided.

Day 3 

Going to Macau Ferry Terminal

  • Make sure to bring your passport because your going to enter another country.
  • From MTR Tsim Sha Tsui station walk along Canton road to Hong Kong China Ferry.
  • Buy ferry tickets at Turbojet ticket booth. Ferry ride going to Macau departs every 30 minutes.

Arrival at Macau Ferry Terminal

  • Macau Immigration.
  • HKD is accepted in Macau.
  • Tourist guides – there’s a lot of tourist guide that will offer a day tour around Macau. I suggest that you look for hotel staffs like Galaxy or Venetian because they do offer a free shuttle ride around Macau.

  • You can buy Macau souvenir items around the area. When buying, they do accept HKD but make sure to check your change if it’s HKD not MOP.

When you’re in Macau don’t forget to eat EGG TARTS! One of the best egg tarts is in Koi Kei Bakery.

Venetian Hotel

  • Shopping – there are international brands inside the hotel.
  • Food – there are varieties of food in the food court which cost around 30 – 80 HKD/MOP.

Macau - Ferry terminal

Going back to Macau Ferry

  • From Venetian exit, look for Macau ferry shuttle bus and it will bring you back to the ferry station.

  • Buy Turbojet ferry ticket going to Hong Kong Kowloon Island.
  • Night sailing ferry tickets price are higher than day sailing.

What I love about Macau is that you don’t need to spend much money because there’s free shuttle buses to transport you areound Macau. You just need money for ferry tickets, food and souvenir items.

Day 4

Disneyland

  • If you know someone who lives in Hong Kong, you can ask them to buy tickets for you because they can avail 10% discount.
  • From MTR Sunny Bay transfer to Disney Island Resort.
  • Food is not allowed inside, snacks are available for 50 HKD.

DAY 5

the peak tram

The Peak Tram

  • Buy your tickets at the entrance of the tram. They offer a package for The Peak and Madame Tussaud tickets at a discounted price.

  • The highest mountain in Hong Kong Island.

  • A wax museum where you can meet your favorite Hollywood, Chinese, and Korean stars at Madame Tussaud and have your picture taken with them.

Where to buy Hong Kong souvenir items?

Peak Market

  • Peak Market – they offer wholesale price for the souvenir items. It’s much cheaper her than Mongkok and Temple Street.

PrizeMart

  • Prizemart – imported chocolates at discounted price. Address: G/F., 446A Nathan Road, Yau Ma Tei
